Employment History

• Head, Management Research Lab, Korea Telecom. January 1999 ~ Present. General administration and overall management of the research lab. The Lab provides research and consulting services to major business units and headquarters in policy and regulatory, marketing, and corporate strategies. In this capacity, he is also on the Executive Board of KT.

• Head, Office of Privatization. July 2000 ~ February 2002 . Major responsibilities included general administration and strategic management of the privatization of Korea Telecom, as stipulated by the Korean Government’s decision to completely privatize by June of 2002. Sale of Korea Telecom shares through strategic alliance, and domestic sales in February 2001 were major accomplishments. The strategic alliance with Microsoft and accompanying exchangeable bond issuance in January of 2002 in the amount of U$ 1.8 billion was the cornerstone of the whole privatization process of Korea Telecom (the privatization was completed in August 2002, as scheduled).

• Leader, Hansol M.Com Acquisition Task Force Team. March 2000 ~ July 2000. Successfully led the task force team, in developing strategies and heading the negotiations with the largest shareholders of Hansol M.Com—then one of the 5 mobile operators in Korea. The transaction was one of the largest in the Korean corporate M&A history, with the value being estimated to be over U$ 2 billion. The acquired firm was soon merged with KTF (formerly, KT Freetel) in early 2001, to form the second largest and fastest growing mobile operator in Korea.

• Leader, Telecom Policy Team, Management Research Lab, Korea Telecom. September 1995 ~ December 1998. Responsible for research in telecom policy and regulation. Mostly providing consultation to the management of Korea Telecom. Lead research including analysis of telecom competition policy and regulatory frameworks in Korea and globalization strategies of Korea Telecom.

• Managing Director, Regulatory Affairs, Office of Corporate Strategies. April 1995 ~ August 1995. Major duties included establishment and coordination of corporate strategies in policy and regulatory issues at the corporate level.

• Leader, Various research teams ranging from Management Analysis Section to Competition Strategy Team, Research and Development Group, Korea Telecom. July 1990 ~ March 1995. Responsible for providing research and consultation in telecommunications tariffs, access charges, WTO negotiations in basic telecommunications, and other policy and regulatory matters relevant to Korea Telecom, right after joining Korea Telecom in July 1990.
