» PRESENTATION

Weakened by the burst of the financial bubble and the reversal of the economic climate, the Information Technology and Communications sectors are on the receiving-end of major enquiries concerning the conditions needed for a rebound, the services and products likely to generate consumer interest and the sectorial re-organisation resulting from the turbulent situation. IDATE’s 2002 International Conference will seek to tackle these issues by examining Europe’s place in the DigiWorld:

» What can be said of European markets, and those features which distinguish them? How are they positioned when compared to the large North-American or Asian markets (size, profitability, offer deployment and level of service penetration, …)?

» Where can growth be expected in Europe, notably in those fields that are likely to boost the markets (mobile, internet services and broadband access, digital TV, …)?

» What new organisation is taking place in the various sectors, during this era marked by consolidation and major players’ deployment of pan-European or International strategies?

» How efficient is Public Policy on the national and EU levels in terms of: competing regulatory frameworks, research policies and support for existing initiatives?

IDATE’s 2002 International Conference has set itself the task of addressing the many issues surrounding the selected theme through a combination of:

» investigation of the global state of affairs, with the aid of sectorial analysis presented by IDATE experts,

» case studies highlighting the best practices in a geographic market or sector and presenting market regulatory and organisational models,

» viewpoints presented by the directors of leading corporations and public policy heads,

» round table debates: forums for contrasting views, leading to debate amongst Conference participants.
